Irkutsk State Medical University is one of the largest state university in Siberia and Far East. Irkutsk State Medical University was founded in 1919 and has quickly become one of the best Medical Universities in the whole of Eastern Europe and beyond. Currently Irkutsk State Medical University has trained over 11000 medical doctors in the world today. Currently the university has 19 faculties and over 18,000 students. The university is highly revered for its facilities for higher studies and research, training, laboratories and observatories. The buildings of the university are also significant from the point of view of archaeology since most of these were built in the 18th and 19th centuries. The university is the oldest higher educational institution in the Far East and Eastern Siberia.
